Depression:
Depression can look like many different things to many different people. My approach focuses on getting a thorough understanding of your emotional experience, its potential causes and current daily impact, and then help you gain insight, understanding, and awareness of how to live the life you want for yourself. This can require tremendous strength and courage on your part, and I see my role as a guide and partner in the work to be done.
Anxiety:
We all experience anxiety. It’s a necessary signal that influences behavior. However, sometimes we focus too much on this and we end up avoiding things, try way too hard to control things, or are overwhelmed with tension, panic, and stress. I work with individuals by exploring what triggers these feelings, ways to better manage and reduce its impact, and feel more comfortable in your own skin. When appropriate, I integrate breathing, relaxation, and mindfulness strategies as a means of furthering the connection between mind and body, thus helping reduce symptoms associated with stress and anxiety.
Traumatic Experience & PTSD:
Trauma can be described as something we experience or witness that completely overwhelms our ability to cope emotionally, behaviorally, cognitively, and physiologically. We can get stuck in this place of traumatic stress which feels like discomfort multiplied by 1,000 (if not more). I work with individuals in this space by trying to establish a sense of safety and stability, by facilitating understanding of what happened to them, and then integrating and reconnecting back with themselves. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional by the International Association of Trauma Professionals, I have specialized training in working with those who have had traumatic experience(s) (i.e. sexual assault, childhood trauma, traumatic accidents, loss etc.).
Relational Problems:
Whether it’s romantic, work, peer, or family, relationships can be complicated and hard to navigate. Nevertheless, healthy relationships are key to less stress and a meaningful life. If feeling unsatisfied in a relationship or recognizing that you don’t know how to effectively manage one, my approach looks at learning ways to create healthier boundaries, effective communication, and understanding the perspective of others. While it sometimes may feel unfair that you have to be the one to change while the other continues down the same path, your efforts may help you feel better and the relationship grow stronger.
Balance & Personal Growth:
Balance is a key component to healthy living, but is often so hard to attain given the many components of life and the abundance of stimuli that constantly attract our attention and energy. When thinking about physical health, we’re often told to “eat a balanced diet.” Essentially, we look to our food and try to discover what foods we like that give us the necessary nutrients so we remain healthy and don’t get sick. Same goes for psychological health; it can be helpful to explore the things in life that keep us focused, energized, and fulfilled. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disorganized, or like things are out of control, I hope I can help you achieve the balance that’s right for you.
